Lift Up The Fallen

I clearly do not belong here, yet I am irresistibly drawn to the violence of it. Moshing is an essential element of death metal concerts. For many fans, the experience is similar to what others might describe as a profound religious experience.

With the obvious exception of the difference of contemporary dress and personal decoration, the characters in my photographs often resemble the subjects found in 16th century reformation paintings.

Lift Up The Fallen contains images from nearly five years of photographing outdoor metal music festivals in the United States and abroad.
