I Laugh Because it Hides the Tears asks to viewer to see and confront contemporary social behaviors and cultural stereotypes, and to take notice of the absurdity of the world within which we live. This photozine's call-and-response format begins with an unfinished phrase: I Laugh Because... and as each page is turned, the sentence is completed by the images and texts that follow. 

I made these photographs between 2007 and 2017 in or near Puerto Peñasco, Houston, Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Amsterdam, Phoenix, Manhattan, Paris, and Las Vegas.

This is the first of nine photozines that I made in 2019 during a six-month hiatus from my day job.
