There's this little hidden dirt road that starts immediately before you set foot on the Golden Gate bridge. It leads to Battery Wallace, a series of WWI-era bunkers that were installed in 1918 and housed the massive artillery used for the defense of the entrance to the Bay. I'll spare you the history lesson, but if you walk over the bridge towards Sausalito, it's worth a trot up into the hills. Just plain creepy.
